I went fishing in Spearfish Canyon this evening. Chilly, slight drizzle with a temp of around 45 degrees in the canyon. Water temp…cold. The trees in the canyon are sporting their fall colors, and so are the brown trout. The stretch of spearfish creek I fished was running a little slow but there were plenty of fish, a little spooky though. If you can manage a longer cast upstream you can almost guarantee a fish to hit. I used my same ol’ beaded pheasant tail nymph and my favorite strike indicator – Thill Ice ‘N Fly Special Float. Size #1.
