Here is Grandma Newman’s Apple Pie recipe that she shared with me quite a few years ago. I hope you enjoy it as much as our family does! If you feel like passing on your favorite family recipe, feel to send it over and I will setup a recipe page. 🙂

Pie Crust

  • At least 8 apples – I use Granny Smith apples usually, but if you know someone with an apple tree use those! Of course ask them first.
  • 3 Cups Flour
  • 1.5 Cups Shortening
  • 5 Tablespoons Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Vinegar
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Egg Beaten

Roll out the top and bottom pie crust. Mix 1 cup sugar and cinnamon (I like lots of cinnamon) and poor over the apples. Cut up at least (5) 1/4 inch thick pieces of butter or margarine and put on top of the apples, sugar and cinnamon mixture. Place the top dough on, and then sprinkle the top with more sugar and cinnamon mixture, easy not too much. Cut some slits in the top of the pie for baking.

350 degrees for 1 hour. Place some tinfoil around the pie crust edges to prevent over baking.
